Wigan Athletic, Blackburn Rovers and Wolves were among the Championship sides to exit the League Cup on a night of first-round shocks.

Defence was at a premium on an eventful night that saw Brentford beat Dagenham and Redbridge 4-2 on penalties after a staggering 12 goals were shared at 6-6 after extra time.
